In California, as in any state, new legislation comes through all the time that affects corporations and their employees. Part of Daniel Chammas’ job is to keep his clients abreast of all of the new legislation coming through the California Congress. Chammas advises his clients on the constantly changing regulations they have to comply with. He also writes for many legal publications about what businesses can do to comply with changing laws, and how lawyers throughout the industry can advise their clients better. One of the most recent pieces of legislature that Chammas wrote about was California Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014. When the law goes into effect in July 2015, virtually all employers in the state of California will be required to give their employees sick leave. In the past, small nonprofits and others were exempted from this law. Daniel Chammas wrote an article called “New California Law Will Require Nonprofits to Provide California Employees with Paid Sick Leave,” in 2014 explaining the particular provisions of the new legislation and how all corporations in California can comply with the new regulations.
Daniel Chammas graduated with a Juris Doctor from Stanford University Law School in 1999. In 2009, he joined the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Venable, and focused on dealing with employment disputes in California. Chammas is currently a partner at Venable and works closely with his corporate clients to help them comply with state and federal statutes. He has also defended many clients in court and has built a reputation for being a skillful litigator in the courtroom. Daniel Chammas has received many honors and published many articles during his fifteen year career as a lawyer mostly representing business interests battling class action lawsuits and employment and labor disputes. Chammas works in the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Venable, an American Lawyer 100 law firm with more than 600 attorneys in nine offices across the country. Chammas himself has worked on many of these kinds of cases, and has personally overseen and prevailed in ten multi-million dollar class action suits during his tenure at Venable. Chammas graduated with a Juris Doctor from Stanford University Law School in 1999. He first worked for McDermott, Will, and Emery for ten years, eventually earning a partnership with the firm. In 2009, he joined the team at Venable as a partner. He is known for his litigation skills—his courtroom moxie, preparation, and overall knowledge of the law often make him the top choice for companies that need representation.
Daniel Chammas was selected for the Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars Edition in 2014, 2013, 2010, 2009, and 2007. Chammas is known throughout the industry for getting favorable results for his clients, and for his sheer lack of fear of litigation. He will take cases to court and argue them fully, no matter how complicated or tricky they may be. He has also contributed to legal thought in his area of expertise with many publications over his career, including, in 2012, an article about non-compete provisions in California published in Labor and Employment News Alert. |
